Nylon Dog Collars

As a side business my spouse trains hunting dogs, for water and upland. He first began by training our dogs, which led his hunting buddies to wonder how he was able to get our dogs to behave so well on hunting trips. This moved into his friends requesting that he train their dogs, and slowly became a part time business. The dogs are trained to respond to verbal and hand commands, as well as a whistle. When he's training for upland hunting he uses choke collars, and when he trains for water retrievers he uses nylon dog collars.

To ensure any birds dogs flush out when on land the choke collar keeps them in check. This way their close enough that the birds that are flushed out are within shooting distance. In contrast the nylon dog collars allow the dogs to be identified from further away. They're lighter weight, and the nylon collars dry very quickly when the dogs get out of the water. In past years leather collars were often used, the down side is that leather takes longer to dry and they often cause some discoloration on the dogs neck when wet. Another downside to leather is that they can begin to hold a smell over time from the natural oils it absorbs from water dogs natural oily coats.

Owners are encouraged to purchase an array of collars. This is to ensure the correct sized choke collar is available for the dog as it grows. Of course to go along with that he wants nylon dog collars in an array of widths as well. This ensure that there is the right fitting collar available for the job the dog will be doing. A wrong fitted collar can be dangerous to the dog. If a collar is to lose it can catch on brush or possibly debris underneath the water, or if it's to tight it's uncomfortable for the dog to wear. A nylon dog collar should fit so you can slip two fingers between your dog's neck and the collar.

Because nylon dog collars are inexpensive you can afford to replace them regularly and have a variety of sizes. Even though nylon dog collars are adjustable, you should still try and purchase the size closest to fit your dog.

When training on a leash, we use leather leases. The reason is two fold, one is the increased weight of the leather gets the dog used to being tied to you. The second reason is to ensure the dog cannot chew through the leash if they are temporarily tied up. A nylon leash can be chewed through in minutes by some dogs, but the increased strength of the leather keeps them safe and secure. Having a well trained dog allows you to enjoy the time more that you spend together.
